Meta Description is the summary of a webpage which contains the maximum of 160 words. Search engines show the meta description in search results, right under the name of the website when the searched phrase is contained in the description.
Meta descriptions help to get more traffic to your website, as it provides a brief summary of what your website is about. If readers are attracted by your meta description, they are bound to click on your link and read more about it.

How to Write Great Meta Descriptions
Here are a few basic tips on writing great meta descriptions.
- Use call to action. Phrases like, “learn more, Click on the link to find out, etc.” This makes the readers eager to click on your link.
- Give readers a clear reason for clicking your website and reading your content. This is how you sell your content properly.
- Do not post irrelevant content in your meta description. New readers might click on it but once they see what the actual content is, they will be dissatisfied. This is Search Engine Optimization 101. Always post relevant content.
- Make it specific. Readers don’t want inaccurate or fuzzy information.
- Keep it short and sweet. About 135 to 160 words will be perfect. More than that, search engines usually will not show them.
- It should have the focused keywords for it. If you are talking about a movie, then the name of the movie should be in your meta description.
- Use a capital letter for the beginning of each letter. This makes it easier to read. This might take some time to get used to but it definitely is worth it.
- Include brand name in your meta description.
- Do not overuse keywords. Anything more than 4 is repetitive and can become obnoxious to your readers.
- Be sure there are no spelling mistakes or grammar errors.
